#What do I love about Germany?

#10. MULTICULTURALITY
I remember visiting Germany as a child. On the streets of Munich I could notice immigrants from Turkey, and rarely from some other countries. Today, on the streets of Bonn, Cologne or Koblenz I can notice people from all over the world. Even on the streets of Remagen I heard people talking Spanish, Russian, Turkish, Bosnian…and several other languages which I wasn't even able to recognise. This makes me feel so good :)!

#9. GERMAN LANGUAGE
German language is so defined, soft in pronunciation and a joy to speak. I fell in love with the strictly organised form of German sentences and the long and difficult pronounceable words. It seems like my peers and I, coming from Eritrea, Jordan, Spain or Australia, are competing with each other; who is more capable to say one of such words. This is not just a story for a blog. Soon I am starting with an intensive German course called „Integrationskurs“  provided and sufinanced  by „ Budesamt für Migration und Flüchtlinge“ intended for all EU citizens by symbolic prices. Check all the details on: www.bamf.de

#8. TIME MANAGEMENT
When I heard my German classmates talking about their time management for their assignments I was simply amazed. No campaign behaviour! Not even in tracks :)! Then I spent some time thinking about it and I came to the conclusion that this skill has to have something with the way they were taught and brought up throughout the educational system and probably before; starting  from kindergarten. This kind of behaviour motivated me to  keep up with them.  For me, German students absolutely  are proof that discipline is something one can learn.

#7. TRAIN & TRAVEL
Studying and living in Remagen, which is only a 15 minute drive with the train to Bonn, 45 minutes to Cologne and 35 minutes to Koblenz. This fact gives me a feeling that all three cities are mine. Also having a student card (this means free transport in the region) allows us freedom to move and visit all of those cities (you choose reasons yourself ;)). Also being here I feel as though I am in the heart of Europe. Only 19€ one-way plane ticket to Dublin, 59€ to London, 33€ to Prague….Luxembourg and Belgium are just „next door“ and to Paris, you can drive with a car in a few hours only. Guys this is amazing! O BTW have you heard about „Wochenende“ train tickets for groups up to 5 :)?

#6. CAMPING SIGHTS
Having a major in tourism I learned camping sights are powerful touristic offers,  however I wasn't aware of the full extent of this power. Not, until I witnessed the vast amount of camping sights in Germany. It seems like on every place with a wonderful view there is a camping sight. Germans really know how to enjoy life :)! Guess what? In Germany there are even specialised touristic fairs only for camping.

#5. SPORT
Many people run and cycle down the River Rhein and many students participate in some sport activity on regular basis. Soooooo, my friends (Laura, Aya, Javier, Komila)  and I started to run as well!!!  See you in Bonn at the half marathon in April 2015 ;).

#4. ECONOMY
This is not just a country of opportunities; for me this is a whole new world of opportunities, opportunities and more opportunities! Supportive argument: 32 out of the 500 strongest companies in the world are German ones! Please, do I need to continue …?

#3. LIFE STANDARD
A person like me, coming from a country with a lower standard than German standards, can clearly see what this higher standard brings. My friend, from Switzerland, told me that „she can't even imagine being in the position not to have a job“. In Croatia some people still go to work and don't even receive a salary. After the war (which ended almost 20 years ago) some people could never gain employment again. Those who needed a few more years to reach the pension age, couldn't get a job as they were considered „too old“. Being born in a society where the system is well organised, education is free, health services are affordable, finding a job is not an issue, the economy is leading in Europe and is the third strongest in the world, gives every German (or any person with these rights) all the more reason to be grateful. I like that in Germany every job can provide life dignity. Here money serves you, not the other way around.

#2.  PHILOSOPHERS
I am a student completing a Master of Communications. Should I mention that this is the country where Adorno, Horkheimer, Marx, Weber, Fromm, Habermas, Benjamin came from? Just a thought that they were walking on the streets that I do –  this makes me very excited! I call them by their last names so that everybody would know who I am talking about. Actually, they are my buddies, my friends, sometimes my opponents and here and there…to be honest, I have a crush on some of their theories, while with some I have a deeper connection ;)…and for some, I wish we lived in the same time ;). They are the reason I „exist“
:) here.

#1. AND THE WINNER IS
I do consider myself the winner by spending my Erasmus+ academic year in Germany, in RheinAhrCampus .    I am grateful indeed
