The pune Marriott was being constructed next to my office at QLogic pune for some time now - located on Senapati Bapat Road. It was only until recently that i realized this fact an was eagerly waiting for this to realize, although i did know for sure i wouldn't be on the who's who list for the inauguration but i was pretty sure that it would be my favorite dining spot when i had the moolah to spend.
The one thing that i like about the Marriott chain of restaurants is that the staff there is willing to go out of their way to get your request fulfilled, in this case i knew i could afford to throw a little weight around because i had already told them that i had a privileged membership card from the Marriott hyd and probably would fancy myself being one of the few to actually use it at the pune restaurant.
The first time i called with the hotel to check if they honor such cards given at other Marriott restaurant chains, the operator had no idea what i was talking about, but then when she enquired i realized i was speaking to the AGM of the Hotel and he was a little puzzled with the fact that i had one with me.
But all i needed to hear was "yes sir, we do honor cards from Marriott" , He did ask me where i had got it from and what type of a card it is and all that , but by then i was already dreaming of being in the restaurant and eating already.
I called on a Saturday afternoon for a reservation and the lady answering the call politely declined with the reason that "sir we are fully booked up to every last table, and we close by 11pm"
I was taken aback by her words, it seemed as a personal insult , but i realized there was nothing that i could do and this as well could be a ploy to deter patrons from booking their tables in advance on weekends. But then i was adamant on dining only at Marriott and that too strictly dinner.
I called Pride to check if they had reservations on weekends and booked a table for 2 for the dinner on Saturday and before she could confirm, i canceled it and called Marriott to check if i can book for Sunday and i got a booking at 7pm done.
When we reached the hotel , parking was in the opposite building because their parking was not ready by then, when i stepped inside the hotel, i was awestruck by the landscaping and water fountains and was wonder where the trademark 10 foot water fountain would be, which i think is a trademark of the Marriott restaurants and lo behold, it was right there in the front , a laminar water fountain..It was an amazing site , i would have loved to click pictures here, but my ego got ahead of me - i dint want to look cheap - although i knew that was stupid.
When i stepped inside the hotel, i had a nice pat down - i told the security person, if u do it with a little more force, you will see ppl line up to get a pat down massage from you and he was guffawing away. Inside the lobby i was like a boy in a candy store, about 30 foot high ceiling with an intricate chandelier with directed lights illuminating them
With insane aroma's coming from all sides. I went into Spice kitchen after confirming my reservation and boy oh boy - i was awestruck for 2 reasons.
1) the buffet was indeed 550 INR and the salad bar and fruit section was insane
If i am correct, Rohit was the person who waited on us that day and he did suggest a nice ice tea ( not the long island ice tea ) and i was pretty happy except for the fact that it was a little sweeter than what i have expected.
The food was amazing, the deserts are to die for , the service is immaculate and the ambiance is heavenly. Do book in advance should you want to visit the Pune Marriott .
For ppl who want the dal chaval roti sabzi and indian vegetarian fare, this isnt for you
